Ella Joseph is a visual and theater performance artist, holding a Master of Arts in scenography from the Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design, London University and a Master of Fine Arts in theater design from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
Ella trained in video art at the University of Art & Design, Zurich, Switzerland; physical performance (Grotowski method) and Body Weather Laboratory at the School of Art & Design, Utrecht, The Netherlands; and painting at the University of Arts, Iasi, Romania.
She also holds a Bachelor/Master in Science in textile design from the Gh. Asachi University of Iasi, Romania.
Ella has instructed in Art & Technology for the Pacific New Media Center at the University of Hawaii, video art, production and digital archiving at the Nieuw Millenium Foundation in Amsterdam, scenography at the School of New Dance Development, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Specializing in the theory and practice of contemporary visual performance, Ella's work includes theatre, performance, installation, painting, printing and photography. Her work has been shown throughout Europe, Canada and the United States.
"Today, definitions and labels are all together trendy and contradictory. Therefore, the labels you or I stick onto the work itself are not relevant. Relevant to me is to evoke awareness and participation by appealing to the viewer’s inherent nature to ask questions and find his/her own answers.
And yet, attempting to explain my own process of creation, I have coined the term scenoart, to connote scenography as an interdisciplinary platform pertaining to most (if not all) forms of art."
